A violent incident linked to a love marriage in Jacobabad left several homes burned and dozens of families displaced after armed men allegedly set fire to a village following the marriage of a young couple.

According to police officials, the attack took place on May 5 in the village of Sadiq Arain, where heavily armed suspects reportedly opened indiscriminate fire before torching multiple houses. Authorities said a terrorism case has been registered against 32 suspects, including 12 individuals specifically named in the first information report (FIR).

Police stated that the violence was triggered after a couple from villages Sadiq Arain and Ghazi Khan Channa reportedly solemnised a love marriage through a court in Hyderabad. Initial investigations suggest the attackers targeted the community in retaliation for the marriage.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) officials confirmed that five suspects have so far been arrested, while special teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining accused. Authorities added that raids are underway in different areas to trace those involved in the attack.

The incident forced dozens of affected families to live in the open after their homes and belongings were destroyed in the fire. Local residents have demanded immediate protection and compensation for the victims, while rights activists have condemned the violence linked to personal marriage choices.

Cases involving retaliation over marriages continue to surface in parts of rural Pakistan, where family and tribal disputes sometimes escalate into violent confrontations. Human rights groups have repeatedly urged authorities to strengthen protections for couples who marry by choice and to ensure swift legal action against those involved in attacks or intimidation.

Police officials said further investigations are ongoing and additional arrests are expected in the coming days.
